The Loggerhead Turtle

Caretta caretta

A large turtle with an overall length of between five and six feet, and 3.5 feet across. Color is reddish brown on top with yellow underneath. It has been reported in the channels to the west of Abu Dhabi, but the sightings were not positive. It is almost entirely carnivorous, feeding on crabs, clams, sponges and occasionally algae. Reported on Bahrain and said to breed on offshore islands.
