Events recorded on Jebel Qatar 8-10 October 2003Events recorded on Jebel Qatar 8-10 October 2003On Wednesday afternoon (October 8), two motion-activated cameras were set up at the base of the escarpment on Jebel Qatar, one near the Hanging Gardens, the second about 200 meters to the east. Fresh chicken hearts were used as the bait. The cameras and motion sensors were activated at about 5 pm on Wednesday. In conjunction with a field trip Friday morning, the cameras were collected. A total of 30 events had been recorded on camera one (near Hanging Gardens), 54 events on camera two (200 meters to the east). A summary of the events appears below. An "event" is recorded by the receiver unit when something breaks the infrared beam between the transmitter and the receiver. Each time the beam is broken, the camera is activated. Camera two had exhausted the roll of film; camera two had recorded more than 30 exposures. Some of the exposures occurred when the cameras were being set up. For future setups, a different delay between recording events, and recording photographs, could be considered. It was noted that, on numerous occasions, several events were recorded for the same minute. Thanks to Bob Reimer for the GPS coordinates. Thanks to Bill and Brien for setting up the cameras. Camera OneCamera One was set up at the base of Jebel Qatar. Fresh chicken hearts were used as the bait. Notes: the clock on the receiver was set incorrectly; "5:22" is actually "17:22". The change from the 8th of October to the 9th is noted (after event 20). Camera One was positioned at N24°19.622' E55°54.429' 519m altitude.
Camera TwoCamera One was set up at the base of Jebel Qatar, about 200 meters east of the Hanging Gardens. Fresh chicken hearts were used as the bait. Notes: the clock on the receiver was set incorrectly; "6:15" is actually "18:15". The change from the 8th of October to the 9th is noted (after event 20). Camera Two was positioned at N24°19.450' E55°54.239' 473m altitude.
