Wadi Safarfir: Slag SpreadsWadi Safarfir: Slag SpreadsAbout a kilometer downstream from the copper mine is a large area with numerous spreads of slag, graves, buildings and stone walls. Perhaps the site that has been destroyed originally appeared like this area. Though several hundred slag cores were found, there was no evidence of where the furnaces were located. Likewise, no ore grinding stones were located nor any roasting pits identified. It is likely the site was used to break up the slag cakes in an effort to extract any copper ore not consumed in the smelters. Nonetheless this is a fascinating area with evidence of many years of smelting activity.
