Familiar faces on top of Jebel Shams

Familiary faces on summit of Jebel Shams

Several years ago, students from around the world participated in a project organized by Raleigh International. The project called for the construction of shelters along the road leading to the top of Jebel Shams, located just outside Nizwa in Oman.

Following the completion of the project, HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, visited Jebel Shams to inspect the work. Near the top of the mountain, where many stop for photos, the Prince and his entourage paused to capture the Kodak moment.

To no one's surprise, at least for those who have been to this incredible place, the special guest was the subject of some attention by one of the unique characters inhabiting Jebel Shams. There is no way to determine what the Prince was thinking but those who have found themselves in a similiar situation know the old man is saying, 'Wahed riyal, wahed riyal' which is the going rate for the handmade keyholder.
