The following is the text of a letter presented to Dr. Walid Yassin al Tikriti in recognition of his years of contributions to the Emirates Natural History Group. The presentation took place at the Al Ain chapter's Annual Photography Competition Meeting at the Al Ain Intercontinental Resort hotel on Tuesday 23 May 2006.
The Committee and membership of the Al Ain chapter are pleased to present Dr. Walid with a lifetime membership in the Emirates Natural History Group in recognition of his unselfish devotion to the history and archaeology of the United Arab Emirates over more than 30 years.
Beginning with his work at Umm an Nar and later the extensive sites at Hili, Dr. Walid has applied his patient professionalism to the task of recording the ancient history of the people and cultures of the region. He has worked on sites throughout Abu Dhabi emirate and has collaborated generously with colleagues in the UAE and around the world on various projects and investigations.
During his time in Al Ain, he has always been a friend and colleague of the Al Ain chapter of the ENHG, sharing his discoveries and enthusiasm with the group and encouraging members to continue to ‘observe, record and report’. His own publications and collaborations, in English and Arabic, provide a solid foundation for future generations of archaeologists.
On behalf of countless individuals who have been informed and inspired by your work, thank you, Dr. Walid.
