The Al Ain chapter is gearing up to start regular meetings once again in a new location to be announced soon. We used to meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month (July, August and December excepted). Moving forward, we will meet in person every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Meetings will begin at 7:30 pm. New members are always welcome.
The chapter has been in existence since 1980. ("The Al Ain group formally became the Al Ain Branch of the ENHG in 1980 but a regular liaison capacity is still required between the two groups. The Al Ain Branch has published its first Report and Proceedings (September 1980), a copy of which is in the library." -- Bulletin 13, March 1981)
The group organizes field trips that are normally held 2-3 times each month during weekends. From time to time, overnight weekend field trips are held. In all instances, the group makes an effort to include all individuals, regardless of age, physical condition or experience.
During each season, additional activities are organized for members with special interests. For example, members interested in challenging mountain hiking can join hikes up Jebel Hafit, and occasionally other mountains in neighbouring Oman. The chapter also has custodial care of insect specimens, the collection including specimens donated to the chapter by Mike Gillett and Brigitte Howarth. From June, 2006, the chapter has added the original collection of the Abu Dhabi chapter to the specimens kept in Abu Dhabi at Brigitte's home.
The group has an email announcement group, courtesy of Google Groups. If you'd like to subscribe, please send an email to brigitte.howarth@gmail.com and Brigitte will send you an invite. Announcements are also shared on the Al Ain ENHG's Facebook page called 'Emirates Natural History Group (Al Ain)
The group maintains a library. The catalog for the library is maintained at the LibraryThing web site.
The Al Ain chapter is managed by a Committee of volunteers. All are welcome.
For the current season, the annual membership fee is AED50 for an individual and AED100 for a family.
