The Al Ain chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group, as part of
the bylaws of the chapter's Constitution, define various positions of
the chapter's Committee. The chapter recognizes four table officers
(Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer) as well as a number of
other positions that may be filled from time to time. In addition, the
Committee may, at its discretion, define other positions for individuals
on the Committee.

Chair
The duties of the Chair of the Al Ain chapter of the
Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Chair monthly meetings and Committee meetings.
- In consultation with other Committee members, prepare agenda for
Committee meetings and AGM.
- Arrange monthly meetings in consultation with other Committee members.
- Deal with non-routine correspondence addressed to the Chair and the
Committee.
- Promote cooperation with other natural history organizations.
- Promote cooperate with and support community organizations such as the
Al Ain National Museum. the Zayed Center for Heritage and History, the
Emirates Environment Group and government agencies
- Develop and maintain partnerships and relationships with community
groups responsible for the organization of conferences and festivals where
the work of the ENHG can be made known
- Be responsible for supervising overall program of talks, field trips,
recordings and other activities, allocating duties – if necessary – to other
Committee members.
- To assume the duties of any vacant defined Committee position, or to
assign those duties to an interim appointee.

Vice Chair
The duties of the Vice Chair of the Al Ain chapter of
the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Assume all duties of the Chair when she or he is unavailable due to
holiday, illness or other commitments.
- Assist the Chair in her/his monthly duties.

Treasurer
The duties of the Treasurer of the Al Ain chapter of the
Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Arrange for monies collected by the Membership Secretary and those
revenues that may be the result of sales to be transferred to the Bank, leaving
the Membership Secretary with an adequate 'float'.
- Arrange for the payment of invoices and for the compensation, in cash or
cheque, to Committee members or general members who have made out-of-pocket
expenditures approved by the Committee.
- Maintain a set of financial records and report on the state of the
accounts at the monthly committee meetings.
- Act as the chapter's principal liaison officer with the Bank.

Secretary
The duties of the Secretary of the Al Ain chapter of the
Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Record and distribute the minutes of all Committee meetings and
the Annual General Meeting.
- Arrange for the revision, if necessary, publication and distribution
of the chapter's promotional material.

Other defined positions
Website Manager
The duties of the Website Manager of the Al Ain chapter of the Emirates Natural History
Group include:
- Arrange for the maintenance of the chapter's website including the
updating of pages, as necessary.
- Establish a team of volunteers to help maintain and develop the website.
- Establish a reliable standard for page design and presentation of
material on the chapter's website.

Field Trip Coordinator
The duties of the Field Trip Coordinator of the Al Ain
chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Organize field trips that advance the appreciation and study of natural history in the UAE.
- Arrange and/or encourage reconnaissance trips as necessary to ensure
feasibility of proposed excursions.
- Arrange that members are reminded to wear appropriate clothing and bring
proper supplies and equipment on field outings.
- Arrange/encourage members who are experts to share their knowledge in
field discussions.
- Encourage the recording of natural history phenomena that is observed on
the trip.
- Arrange that articles summarizing field trip are drafted for the
Newsletter. There should be one article announcing the trip, if possible, and
one after the trip written by one of the participants.

Librarian
The duties of the Librarian of the Al Ain chapter of the
Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Maintain the chapter's collection of books, videotapes, periodicals and
clippings, specifically keep an up-to-date record of the collection and arrange
for the members to be aware of the contents of the collection.
- Arrange for the marking of each item in the collection so that it can be
identified as part of the collection, using when possible a stamp and ink pad.
- Recommend to the Committee from time to time acquisitions to the
collection.

Membership Secretary
The duties of the Membership Secretary of the Al Ain
chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Maintain an up-to-date record of the membership, noting whether each
membership is for an individual or family.
- Arrange for the selling of memberships, including the preparation of
laminated cards, completion of membership application forms, and posting to an
electronic database.

Newsletter Editor
The duties of the Newsletter Editor of the Al Ain
chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Recruit a small group of volunteers to assist in the production of each
newsletter.
- Publish an edition of the newsletter for each month of the season (Sept
through June inclusive), if possible.
- Collect newsletter copy on an ongoing basis so there is a constant supply
of material for upcoming issues of the newsletter.
- Edit and arrange copy (edit mainly for sensitive items).
- Arrange for typing, preparing a version suitable for posting on the chapter's
website as well as suitable for printing. The Committee will not print copies
but may, if considered necessary and appropriate, make copies of the newsletter
available for distribution via CD (less to purchase a CD than to print a
hard-copy color version.)

Ordinary Member
The duties of an Ordinary Member of the Al Ain chapter
of the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Contribute in any way possible to the activities of the chapter.
- Participate in Committee meetings.

Recording Officer
The duties of the Recording Officer of the Al Ain
chapter of the Emirates Natural History Group include:
- Establish or arrange for the establishment of a reliable record keeping system.
- Establish a reliable system to share information collected by the chapter
with other ENHG chapters and relevant government and non-government
organizations.
- Promote the practice of recording natural history among the membership,
including the use of recording sheets, photography, illustrations and
note-taking.
- Report on recording activities from time to time in the newsletter and
via the website.
