Ras al Khaimah ScrapbookRas al Khaimah Scrapbookby Phil IddisonEarly in 2003, Phil Iddison and Brien Holmes travelled to Ras al Khaimah to inspect the numerous sites in and around the city as a part of the planning process for a RAK Weekend for members of the Al Ain chapter. The resident archaeologist in RAK, Christian Welde, was geneous enough to arrange for accommodation in the Falayah compound. Phil and Brien spent three days inspecting the sites, made copious notes and took several hundred photographs (the actual count is in excess of 800). Some of the sites are familiar to anyone who has spent any time in Ras al Khaimah -- Shimal, Jazirat al Hamra, the Museum -- while others are less well known -- the yanz of Wadi Sha'am, the community of Sili, the residence at Nakheel. Some of the photographs have been arranged here for those of you planning a trip to Ras al Khaimah or those who want copies of images from some of these sites. Phil's photography -- captured on one of the first digital cameras -- is both detailed and stunning. Click on the link below to view the photos which are arranged in a series of 14 scrapbooks, some containing a handful of photos, some containing dozens (the total number of photos is noted in the list below).
